The Twitter-Size Answer:
A busy travel schedule & a big birthday gave Cathy Boyle an excuse to put her creative writing skills to the blogging test.
A Wikipedia-Size Answer:
The concept for this Never B4 blog was born out of circumstance.
Monthly, long-haul business travel paired with many unexpected weekend trips between Maine & NYC, had Cathy going from one place to the next in an almost robotic fashion. After years of such constant travel, Cathy felt her drive to experience new things (something she always treasured) slipping away. At the same time, her home in Manhattan had become a place to hole-up and rest, rather than a place to expand her horizons.
A milestone birthday also loomed on the horizon and Cathy had the desire to mark the big day in a memorable way. A special vacation with her husband, and a separate girl's getaway, satisfied her celebratory needs but her hunger for adventure grumbled for something meaty. She made a list of things she always wanted to experience but had forgotten about, or chickened out of doing. Some of the ideas on her list tested her physical limits (rock climbing), some tested her self-esteem (nude sun bathing) and others tested her writing skills (a real-time twitter novel).
Unable to to whittle down her list, she came up with the idea to do one new thing, a Never B4 thing, every week until her big birthday. These weekly endeavors would not only provide adventure, they would be an excuse to ground herself in the surroundings her frequent travel offered. They would make "inbetween" moments in airports, train stations or road-side stops more interesting, and they would inspire her to seek out new experiences when she was home in Manhattan.
The Reason For This Blog:
To invigorate and inspire. By writing about her Never B4 adventures each week, Cathy hopes to invigorate her readers' interest in breaking from routine and motivate others to try something new each week. She also hopes her posts will inspire people to look near and far for Never B4 challenges.
